Sustainable Gardening Tips & More

Grab your gardening gloves and trowel, it’s time to dig into the upcoming gardening season. There is so much benefit from having your own garden whether it be in your own backyard or through a community plot. Not only is it a fun and relaxing pastime – growing your own food or even just planting flowers is a great way to live green!

Some sustainable gardening tips to keep in mind include using compost, collecting water in rain barrels, using recycled gardening supplies and planting for the bees by planting flowers that produce plenty of nectar and pollen.

On the note of composting, to help out with gardening the City of Calgary will be offering compost from May 10th to June 26th. The compost is available to pick up by appointment and is complimentary. More details can be found here https://www.calgary.ca/uep/wrs/recycling-information/residential-services/green-cart/green-cart-compost-giveaway.html

We can expect to see lots of gardening happening in the community. Especially since The Mount Pleasant Community Garden is full again this year. Here’s to another wonderful growing season!
