Playgroup is available to families with pre-school aged children, from newborn to around 5 years old. Playgroup has a great assortment of toys, large and small. We have a plastic climbing structure with tunnels and slides, play houses, play kitchens, a workshop and several ride-on toys and cars. We have individual bins filled with smaller toys such as balls, cars, animals, dolls and accessories, pretend food and dishes, etc. We have a costume cupboard for dress-up play and a book and puzzle collection. We also have a painting area, playdough and crafts. There is a designated baby area with age appropriate toys and equipment. For 2016/2017, Playgroup runs sessions Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 11:00am. Here's a glimpse of what a day at Playgroup is like: 9:00am Free play. First arrivers will help take out the toys and play equipment and setup the baby area. Snack volunteer puts out the parent snack. Craft volunteer prepares craft. 9:30am Craft time. Crafts are simple enough for 2-4 yr olds with minimal parent intervention. 10:00am Snack time. Snacks are light (crackers, fruit, cheese) and include juice. Snacks are provided by the parent volunteer for that day and are nut-free and peanut-free. After Snack - Free play. Kids play while the parents and caregivers help clean up snack, craft, and snack area. 10:45am Clean up. Parents, caregivers and children help put toys and play equipment back in storage room and clean up the kitchen, play and snack areas. Circle Time (depending on the day that you attend). Click here to download a copy of the songs used at Circle Time. 11:00am Doors are locked Parents are expected to supervise their children at play as well as share in snack, craft and clean up duties. There are snack and craft sign-up sheets for each day and depending on the number of members on your day, you will have to bring snack and lead the craft once or possibly twice per session. Craft materials and ideas can be found in the craft cupboard. Clean-up is a shared responsibility each day and does not rely on the person who brought the snack. Dishes are to be washed and left to dry, tables & chairs wiped down and floors swept and mopped. All toys are stored in the toy room at the end of each day. Yes, you may drop in and see what it is like and if interested in joining afterwards, please contact the registrar. There is no drop-off option, unless you have made arrangements with a playgroup parent or caregiver beforehand. An adult must supervise your child/children. To ensure that there isn’t overcrowding, the registration limit per day is 25 children (this includes infants). There is no specified ratio but there must be at least one adult responsible for the child or children in the family. Suggestions can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, can be addressed to your daily keyholder, or you may contact any member of the playgroup board. Board members are volunteers who have children attending Playgroup. A list of board members and contact information is posted on the bulletin board at playgroup and is also circulated to playgroup members at the beginning of the year. Yes, the lower hall can be rented for a fee + deposit for birthday parties or other events by contacting the MPCA Hall Coordinator at email@example.com or 403-282-1314. Toys are only available to playgroup members, who contact the Board Keyholder and sign a toy-use and key agreement. Each year, because we share the lower hall space with the Pleasant Heights After School program, playgroup follows their schedule, which is based on the Calgary Catholic School calendar. We are also closed during statuary holidays, the Christmas holidays and March Break. The Playgroup Halloween Party is scheduled for a Friday morning before Halloween. The Playgroup Christmas Party is scheduled for a Saturday morning in early December. All families, including those who do not attend Playgroup, are invited to attend the Christmas Party. Yes, we welcome donations. We actively solicit and receive donations from many local businesses in the form of discounts and donations for food, cleaning supplies, door prizes and food for parties, etc. Playgroup also accepts donations of toys based on our need and capacity. Please contact the toy coordinator to discuss before bringing in any new toys. All Playgroup member information is used for the purposes of Playgroup only and is not circulated outside of Playgroup.
